Medical errors a serious concern in the United States study finds

The results of a study released in 2016 found that medical errors may be the third leading cause of death in the United States. Medical errors and doctor errors are increasingly common according to the study and result in 251,000 deaths annually or 700 deaths a day. The study in question evaluated 4 other studies in reaching its conclusions. The number of deaths attributable to medical negligence accounts for approximately 9.5 percent of all deaths in the U.S. each year.

Concerns over medications being given to the wrong patient and wrong-site surgeries remain valid according to the study. Medical malpractice can refer to a host of concerns from doctor errors to victims dying due to systemic issues within hospitals. When a victim has been killed by the medical care and treatment they are receiving, rather than the medical condition or disease that occasioned the need for treatment, it is an obvious concern.

It has been pointed out that the topic of medical malpractice may not be discussed as frequently as it needs to be and that some areas of research into the topic could be strengthened. Because of the devastation medical malpractice can inflict on victims and their families, the legal process has protections in place to help them recover damages when they have suffered harm as a result of medical negligence.

To help hold the medical community accountable, and ensure victims and their families have the necessary resources to address challenges and concerns they may have following a situation of medical negligence, medical malpractice legal options are available to victims. It is essential for victims to be familiar with these options if they have been harmed by doctor errors.
